No Music and no Poetry

Vitor Andrade

Party, fun, joy and music. These adjectives describe the scenario of the “baiano” summer, especially during the carnival.

But if on one hand, this is a time of great fun for the “baianos” and tourists who flock to the capital during this period, the same is not true when it comes to the idyllic beaches and lush part of the tourist circuit of Salvador.

After news of the absurd, accumulation of garbage in the sea region between “Porto and Farol da Barra”, a group of surfers decided to investigate and dived at the site. The surprise was not at all pleasant.

The garbage that was concentrated in a channel - was formed by an average of 1.500 metal cans, plastic bottles and remnants of “abadás” (a special shirt worn during the carnival), proving negligence by the size of the population that makes up the scenery (nothing) festive.

The surfers came in contact with at least three TV stations, in order to document the ruthless chaos on the seabed, without getting any success, except for Happy Hour program, the closed channel GNT, where the presenter interviewed by Astrid, live on web cam, surfer Bernardo, one of those who were in charge of the action.

The “Baía de Todos os Santos (BTS)” witness a scene of light and pleasure, as sung in the merry music of carnival in Salvador. Keeping this characteristic seems rather to be the best against this backward attitude adopted by thousands of revelers invade the bar in the carnival.

The revelry of the sea was violently assaulted, with no chance of defense, without poetry, without music. Throw the trash in the trash is one of the most basic rules of education. And it will ensure an equal joy in all parts of the party.

As the newspaper Correio da Bahia Online places, despite the exotic beauty and its rich biodiversity which attracts tourists worldwide, investors and "innovative" working ways in the region, the problems are many and serious.

Besides the problems mentioned above, the merchant port of Salvador, receives a huge amount of ships coming from different parts of the world, many in poor condition. Will be that there is no impact on the marine environment?

The overfishing has become a common practice even for many fishermen who live in the islands, not worrying about the presence of other aquatic animals and plants. However, they also face the difficulty of survival, lack of care and the complete neglect of the state in relation to fishermen and coastal communities.

But not only that, the problem goes beyond, involves the dolphins, living in the region, and sea turtles which migrate to spawn in the islands, they are raped, maimed, sold and often dragged on the sand.

In this chain of problems, trafficking of animals and plants deserve special attention. The supervision on the islands is precarious, missing supervisors and more effective laws to produce the desired effect. In this chain of bloodshed, everybody loses, even capitalism, the main engine of the problems faced by society in Bahia and Brazil.
